You smogged the car months ago, I thought they expire in 90 days?
They do expire after 90 days... FOR PRIVATE PARTIES. For dealers, smogs are valid for TWO YEARS. This means we could have smogged the car up to 729 days ago, and still legally sell it to you, and it MIGHT have an issue on the way home. This also means the next time you go to smog it, it CAN fail. That has nothing to do with the smog that we did for the purposes of the sale, even 7xx hundred days ago. Even the employees at the DMV are usually unaware of this, but see below for the California law code.
CA H/S 44015(f) Link California Health and Safety Code § 44015(f) states: A certificate issued to a licensed motor vehicle dealer shall be valid for a two-year period, or until the vehicle is sold and registered to a retail buyer, whichever occurs first."
